the clothes are for charlie

terry and i had to reschedule our biweekly homeless lunch to today. we walked around rodney square to scope out a victim. we found aubrey, but he goes by charlie. he's not sure why. charlie is a man of few words...i think. i couldn't really hear him. i'd pick out recognizable phrases/words through the mumbling. ...west virginia...dallas cowboys...north market street...son in town...sunday breakfast mission...mcdonalds... terry and i tried our best to maintain a conversation. we did pretty well considering. when we first approached him, he said he needed to take care of something important but appreciated the offer. as we walked away, we decided we should at least introduce ourselves in case we see him again. that's when he succumbed to our perseverance. "migesicngo." subtitle: "i guess i can go." off to our favorite sandwich shop- creatively name 'benjamin's.' charlie was outraged at the prices. $4 for a hamburger! "iiiicugo t' mcdon n' git tooooberrrgrs." subtitle: "i could go to mdconald's and get two burgers." i told him not to worry because terry was paying. i could be exaggerating his speak; terry will call me on it if i am. he seemed a little confused that we just wanted to have lunch with him. no agenda. just lunch. but he didn't seem uncomfortable with it. he wasn't nearly as motivated as eric (or here). eric has big ideas. hopes. dreams. mostly false hopes and dreams. but they keep eric going. from what we could gather, charlie has worked temp jobs his entire life and doesn't have any one thing that he enjoys. no hobbies. he told us where he hung out (which was right where we found him) in case we wanted to invite him again...and we do. terry had the bang-up idea of asking him what he needed. he needs a jacket with lots of pockets like phil jackson (???), shoes, and gloves in preparation for the winter. we're going to dig through our excessive amounts of clothes and deliver them to the home that he's staying at. we got the address. if gayle answers, we're suppossed to let her know that the clothes are for charlie.

Yeah, you got it all in their brother. I thought it was funny how he shared his fries with us. It struck me how much of a regular guy he seemed, and you're right - he seemed really comfortable with us.
