you should read it. check this out:
most of what terry and i want to achieve with our homeless lunches is to treat "the poor" as subjects and do things with them. we've said before that we're not necessarily trying to solve the problem of homelessness or poverty, but we recognize that establishing a connection with them is the beginning of the solution."Neither the political conservatives nor the liberals much engaged with actual poor people. Most conservatives did not know any poor people or families to test their assumptions about poverty and, if they ever did come into real contact, those assumptions often changed. Many liberals had little more relationship to poor people than conservatives, and generally regarded 'the poor' as objects more than as subjects in social problem solving. Doing things for rather than with poor people became the liberal strategy."

It sounds interesting. I put a hold on it online from the Elkton library, so hopefully I'll be able to get it in a week or two.
I've read some interviews with Jim Wallis and I read his blog and I find him very interesting. I don't always agree with everything I read there, but I like reading and processing other view points, since I've been going through my own personal political upheaval.
Nice, is this the quote you were looking for?
Although out of context that quote is a little hard to read. Was he referring to liberals and conservatives from a few years ago? I'd say that the current trend for both sides is to be more engaged on the streets.
I'm not done with my "report"...yet.
word to the foot. i figured everyone was posting about the dollar, awhile back, so i wanted to wait a little bit, ya know. keep kickin' it, buddy :)
